S.P.O.R.T.S

When I was in school, way back in the day, I was an average student. My favorite subject would have been Reading or English and what did I hate the most, other than Math? P.E.!! I stunk at physical education. I hated every game we had to play and I was that little girl that nobody wanted on their team. In fact, when I was the 'captain' and had to choose my teammates, everyone would groan when I called their name. And when I was not the captain? You guessed it, I was the last one chosen. Quite reluctantly, at that!

Sports has always, and still is, nowhere to be seen in my interests. I do not even like to watch it. Except for Gymnastics. I always dreamed about being a gymnast and I wanted to go the Olympics and do the floor exercise and win a gold medal. I could do a cartwheel, and that is about as far as that ever went, since 'way back in the day' there were no gymnastics classes within an hour of where I lived, that dream died fast.

Fast forward about 30 years later and my 10 year old is now on the 5th grade volleyball team at her school. I am so proud of her. Proud that not only is she showing an interest in something that I despised my whole life, but that she loves it and she is good at it! Obviously she did not get her sportsman-like genes from my eggs!

You can rest assured that when I go to her first game, she won't be dodging the ball and praying that it comes nowhere near her like a little girl I once knew!

Ah, my family always had sports. If nothing else, we had sports. :) I'm watching an NFL pre-season game as I type this comment, actually. Love the camaraderie it creates, the competitiveness it drives, pushing the athlete to try its very best. I know other activities can teach this, but there's just something about combining physical activity for health along with mental health. Not to mention endorphins that physical activity stimulates your body to release, making everything seem somehow happier. LOL

I can't wait to see how your daughter enjoys the team. Keep us posted!

I HATED gym class!! Mainly because it was co-ed and the guys just ripped on the girls (like me!) if they made one little mistake. I was on the soccer team for a couple years and really like that though. Glad she found something she likes!!

Congratulations to your little girl for being part of the team! I am sure that you are one proud mommy! I love sports but I hated volleyball. I also prayed that the ball won't go near me so that I won't ruin the game. lol! This just made me laugh so hard.
