My sister has told me many times that I need to not worry about things that are out of my control. Well little sister, if it is out of my control, then I feel it is all the more reason for me to panic!
Take last night, for instance. My daughter went to take a bath after her sister and I were done with ours and began to yell that she was not getting any hot water. My first instinct was one of panic and fear! The hot water heater (which is not even 5 years old and runs on gas) had given me a little trouble last week when the pilot light went out. My brother in law came over, re-lit it and showed me what to do if it happened again (like I'd remember in a moment of desperation!)
Needless to say, I did not. Even after he walked me through it by phone, I just gave up and turned it off completely. Today a plumber came, cleaned it out, re-lit it and 'taught' me how to do it if the need arises again. I am hoping 'not', but we shall see.
With all of that being said, I just can not help but wonder if I will ever handle a crisis without going off the deep end by yelling, wanting to cry, and basically 'losing it'. I'm 41, I think it's time to grow up!

Eh...sometimes you handle everything right and it still goes to pot, so I don't know. LOL
Amy...been there, done that! When Chris has been out of town is when my world falls apart and some sort of "disaster" happens. Often times, I don't handle things as well as I should, but I think we all just do the best we can.
I'm 41 and I still freak out sometimes.
Hang in there!
I think that's just our reaction as women. lol!
I agree with sarajo. :D I guess even though we age, some things do not naturally end up within our control.
Big hugs!! Certain things set me off toward the deep end too, so you aren't alone! It will be OK though, promise!
Yup, further proof that we are related! LOL That's how I handle crisis too. Though most would disagree with me as to the definitions of crisis!
Hope your water heater behaves now :)
