FIRE!!!!!!!

There is absolutely no fear in the world that can compare to being awakened by your screaming child that the house is on fire!

At about 5:30am this morning, Alyssa (who had been asleep on the couch) was yelling for help. Our heater (the same one that gave me problems just barely a week ago) had shorted out in the plug-in section and was throwing smoke and flames everywhere.

I jumped from my bed and ran into the living room, not knowing what to do . Shocked, half asleep, scared, confused. I ran to the kitchen and then back again and without thinking, just grabbed the cord out of the socket and pulled it out of the wall. The flames went away.

I called Mr. Sweetie, who is in Kentucky, but when you don't know what to do you call those who mean the most. I then called my Dad who came right away and made sure the breaker was turned off. I then called the fire department to come and make absolutely sure there was no more fire. There was not and it was obviously just from the cord itself.

My brother in law is installing a brand new unit. I will not, can not, take any chances with this happening again.

I am shaken, scared, still in shock and so very thankful to God and whatever angel in Heaven woke my baby and alerted me. Thank you Lord.

Sounds like you guys do have a guardian angel. I'm freaking out for you just reading that story. I'm so glad to hear that no one was hurt and your house is ok. What a close call! And yes, I do believe in angels.

Oh my cupcakes!

I am so glad you're all ok!

We had something similar happen once with a fan. The cord had gotten worn and frayed at the connctio point. We woke up to a popping noise just in time to watch electircity shooting from it.

i can't imagine how scary that was for you. it truly is a fear of mine and last week we had an ice storm so everyone was using generators and heaters and 4 boys were burned in a barn because of this same thing. so I am sooo glad you are all okay! I really like you blog and will have to come back and read some more.

WOW! that is definitely a rough start to the morning, good thing your little one was sleeping on the couch that night to catch it soon enough. Hopefully the rest of your week goes much more smooth!

Amy- So glad that you got things taken care of quickly. Even in your sleeplessness, you handled it quickly. We lost everything in a fire when I was 5 and I still remember the chaos of the whole thing.
