The writing prompt I chose from MamaKat this week is:
Who really helped you get over something? Write about that person.
I have known my best friend, Heather, since we were in grade school. I will never forget the slumber party she had in the 6th grade. Most of the girls in all of the sixth grade were there and it was probably the best slumber party I ever attended.
We stayed up until around 5 am and we watched Motel Hell, had a beauty pageant, ate tons of food and played Light As a Feather. Fun times, I tell ya. We still talk about that slumber party to this day!
Throughout junior high and into high school we really were not that close. We did remain friends but we hung out in different groups. As soon as we graduated high school however, we became inseparable. Our fun times turned to double dating, going out together and having the adventure of our lives. All we wanted though, was to get married and have kids and 'guys' became the main focal point of our existence. (Silly us!)
We joke now about how we should have moved away to a larger city had successful careers and stayed away from the boys! Needless to say, that did not happen.
Over the next few years we both went through a few relationships, broken hearts, love and eventually marriage and the births of our children. Through thick and thin, no matter what, we have always been there for each other.
Heather divorced a couple of years before I did and was my rock when I went through mine. Without her friendship during that particular time, I do not know where I would be today. She laughed and cried with me, stayed up late on the phone with me and basically, carried me through.
She listened to my grief, laughed at my exaggerated stories and still continues to do so until this very day.
There is nothing I can ever do to repay Heather for the many times she has saved me, other than to continually be there for her through thick and thin. That is what friends are for, right?

What a great friend. I have lost touch with alot of my friends. One of my good friends moved away and I moved away but we still talk on the phone but don't hang out anymore. Great Post -- Thanks for sharing.
Heather sounds like an amazing friend. It's hard to hold on to those friends. I'm lucky to say I have one from elementary school.
What a special post, you're the sweetest thing!
Real friends come around only once in a while so we hold on tight when we have one. Great post.

Visiting from Mama Kat's. Ah, what a lovely tribute and story. Rekindled friendships are wonderful, she sounds like a lifer!
Good friends are hard to come by so hang on to her! She sounds amazing...everyone needs a friend like that.
I like Heather already. And the slumber party sounds like the ones I went to as well...minus the frozen underwear and bra trick. What a nice story. :)
What a great friend and what great writing. I can read your love for your friend Heather. Those are the friends we want forever.
