My sister and I would stay up and watch it every year and I remember celebrating every time the announcement would come up that it was going to air soon. Usually on a Friday night. Being, both of us, the chickens that we were, some parts of the show scared the crap out of us. This being one of them:
I think I have had more nightmares in my lifetime over that darn wicked witch saying that she was going to "get you and your little dog too", than any other.
Now this next snippet used to crack. us. up! We still make fun of this little scene today:
And who can forget the "I'm Melting"....love this scene:
The whole meaning and message of the movie still follows me to this day. The "No Place Like Home" and wanting to find courage, and most times a brain! However I don't think anything strikes a chord with me more than this song:
So this song is how I feel lately, trying to find my 'somewhere' over the rainbow. The happiness and position in the world that I belong in. Is it just a 'tale' like The Wizard of Oz, or is there such a place?

Somewhere over the Rainbow is one of my all time favortie songs, I sing it all the time in the shower lol!
My favorite part was the mean old lady riding the bike :)
I love "Wizard of Oz"...always have, always will! I love the Cowardly Lion when he's getting the "spa treatment". Makes me laugh everytime! Those flying monkeys used to scare me to death!
I love references to the WOO....I'm a Kansas girl and other than the annoying "do you know dorothy" questions, I love that the WOO represents KS. I wonder if you're closer than you realize to finding your somewhere, by acknowledging "there's no place like home". I know firsthand that we don't want to always be pigeon-holed as "mom" or "wife", that there is more to US than that. We remember who we were before and where we're going get lost, I think...sometimes. That's a lot of rambling, but what you've written about lately are the exact things I've been thinking about lately. :) For now, I'm working on making HOME my somewhere, instead of searching elsewhere.
That witch scared the dickens out of me!! My favorite was "Somewhere Over the Rainbow." That song created many dreams for me:-)
Check out Tin Man...miniseries from Scifi channel, but you can rent it also. VERY good...new 'interpretation' of it...and fun!

My favorite scene starts just after she arrives in Oz and the "little people" sing. I also like the flying monkeys... I know... I'm weird!
I love the Wizard of Oz now my 3 year old loves it -- we sit and laugh at the scarecrow and Aden belly laughs and says silly man. LOL
Oh, I wanted to be Glenda. In fact, I still do...her dress is amazing. So any scene with her is my fave.
Remind me to dress as her next Halloween. Red wig and all!
Oh to be ten again. This was THE movie to watch during the holidays. And who didnt want shiny ruby slippers!! Stopping by from SITS!
I LOVE that movie and the songs and just the magic of it all.
I love Dorthy and when she finds out OZ is just a real person. Kind of reminds me of life not to build things or people up bigger then they are or can be :)
