Every year about this time I go to the tanning bed for a month, just to get that god-awful ,blindingly white look off of my bod. I know it's not good for me and all that jazz, but it's the only thing I really have time for. It takes just a few minutes a day and I don't have to be outside sweating to death while my nosey neighbors try to get a look at me in a bathing suit. With the beds I get fast results and that is what I want.
Today when I went to broil myself for all of 8 minutes (that is only as long as I can go right now until I get past the scorching point) there was a sign on the door saying that because of some Health Ordinance, Law, Nonsense, that we will now be required to clean our own bed after we use it.
At first I was appalled, because firstly, I do not go there to work. Cleaning is not my thing, if you know what I mean. I do enough of it at home. Plus, what the heck else are those lazy wenches behind the counter going to do with all that time on their hands besides clicking up on the computer how long to set my timer to fry me?
As I lay there pondering what the heck was the purpose of this, I started thinking... Not only would I have to clean it after I was done, I would have to clean it before I even start, because what if the person before me is even lazier than me and decides that after their skanky sweaty ass is done baking they don't feel like cleaning it? More work for me, still. Damn!
The price we pay for improving our looks, it never ends!

Seriously? Oh Haell naw! That's just gross to think about lying in someone else's sweat...shiver...
I think I'm band from the tanning bed. My doctor would kill me if I got another suspicious mole!
Here in WA we're expected to clean our tanning beds when we are done, and I always clean mine before I get in it, you just never know who has been there before!! I *think* they clean before the next client but who knows for sure.
I haven't been to the tanning booth in a while though, and this doesn't exactly make me want to race back! LOL
Amy~
Please be super careful in those tanning beds. I read just the other day that going to a tanning bed increases your chances of getting melanoma by 75%! My brother was diagnosed with it just recently, in fact. He's one of those outdoorsmen who never use sunscreen. Thankfully, they caught it early, but the procedure he had to go through to make sure they got all of the cancer was extensive and no fun, at all. My daughter, also, knows of someone at her high school who's 17 years old and has melanoma. She's been fighting it for almost 2 years. What I do is I use self-tanners...there are really some good ones on the market. I'll take a little paler skin anyday over a diagnosis of cancer. Stay safe...PLEASE!
Seriously? You're required by law to clean your bed after you use it? Maybe they do that here in Cali too (it's been a long time since I've been to the tanning salon!), but I've never heard of that before. I would never trust that whoever was there before me had done it, because they might be just like me!
When I worked in one at HS we had to clean the beds. But I remember a few years ago when I went I had to clean mine too. But yup you never know about the person before you!
LOL. When I used to do this I would just clean it in case the skanky bias at the front desk were lazy.
On a side note...I'm not judging...but your skin is probably supple and soft and totally gorgeous...no need to ruin it!
I used to tan ALL the time, and sadly it made my whitest, most sensitive skin wrinkly and gross - only at age 20! Now I wear sunscreen like it's going out of style and slather on self tanner every morning! Something about tanning is totally addictive tho.
You would think that the staff would do it. They wait until you are done and go in and give it a clean. They know when you are in and out. Just hire someone to do that. Oh man you go for a get away and are cleaning. Do not forget my Round Robin is tomorrow. You can show some of your picture taking skills.
As a nurse....you know my speech! But yeah, I would clean it first too.
Pale is the new tan!! LOL
BTW--I could pass as a ghost.
I've always had to clean any bed I've used...I think I'd want to anyways LOL I don't want anyone else's funk on me!!!
With what they charge and they make you clean too?
Honestly - every time I go to a tanning salon, there's always freakishly tan teenagers "working" (ie filing their nails and gazing into space). You'd think they'd be able to find a minute in their hectic day to get off their butts and earn their paycheck.
You know, the few times I've been tanning, I've always been paranoid anyhow and cleaned them myself. LOL
Too funny! I spray myself it's better. It takes one time and I'm dark.
Happy Mothers Day
Ahhh... tanning beds. How I miss thee! I generally would hit the tanning beds before weddings I was in... including my own. I did this until a girl I worked with scolded me sternly and told me a story about one of her former co-workers who got skin cancer blah blah.
The tanning spa I went to had spray bottles for you to clean the bed before and after you used it. I was so paranoid about lying in someone else's sweat drippings I always sprayed the bed before and after.
And honestly, there was nothing like lying in that nice warm bed after a long, cold winter.
i won't lecture you bc you're an adult and you know the dangers.
but pale is beautiful - don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
that is just weird that you have to clean it yourselves. although how do you know if the tanning bed workers did it? hmmmm....
