Hello and Welcome!

A big hello and welcome to visitors from Blog Around The World !

I am so excited that Debbie is featuring Louisiana in her first stop in the tour. I have not been blogging very long, just about 5 months or so. Since I've begun, I have made some new and wonderful friends and I am hoping to add more to the mix.

With that being said, let me see what I can come up with about Louisiana that you would all like to know.

This is considered Cajun Country. We have tons of wonderful food that is to die for. I am talking everything from Boiled Crawfish to Crawfish Etouffe, to Seafood Gumbo. Mmm, mmm, mmm. Now, I have met a few peeps from the northern states that don't even want to hear the word crawfish, much less consider tasting the critters, but I must say you don't know what you are missing. They are considered cuisine around here. Also, they are my favorite when it comes to seafood. Or any food, for that matter.

I would like to clear up one myth about Louisiana. We do not all live with swamps in our backyards and alligators on our doorsteps. I am not a country girl, so I wouldn't stand for that anyhow. We do however, have a couple of them on display at our local park, along with some baby ones that the kids can go inside and hold.

One thing that is true about this place, it is HOT over here! I am talking, walk outside, take your breath away, suffocating, sweating, plain 'ole HOT! We don't get much of a winter and we hardly ever see snow. I don't remember the last time it snowed here. I live in the southwest part of the state. Louisiana is in the shape of a boot, and I live way down in the heel part of it. Occasionally, the northern part of the state sees a little snow, but where I am, all we get is rain. And hurricanes. Yuck. My neighbors in Texas and Florida can relate on how UN-fun those are.

I don't have an accent. Nope, I don't. You all would probably say that I do, but you'd sadly be mistaken. You are the ones that talk different, not me. I have had this discussion with several people and you can't win, so don't even go there.

There are tons of places to visit here in Louisiana and if you ever get the chance to visit, you should. I would have to say don't forget to bring your suntan lotion, your bug spray (mosquitoes are horrible here) and some Tums so that you can try out all of the awesome food.

Thank you for stopping by and come back now, hear?

Ha ha! Okay- maybe you don't have an accent. But I am so going there. ;D

Why do all the movie stars with foreign country accents try to sound like they're from Cali when they want to sound like they have no accent?

And why could I work at 1-800-CONTACTS and talk to people from every state, and determine whether or not they were from the south because of their accent? And how is it that they had no idea where I was from?

Ha ha- I wouldn't even say anything, but I've had this discussion before, and I get a kick out of it. Plus, it seems like you're up to the challenge...

Thanks everyone for stopping by and leaving me some luv!

Hot Air~ Hmmm, well let me start by saying, I do not have that TX twang to my 'talk' and I sound no where near like Ellie Mae from the Beverly Hillbillies. I don't change the way ANY of my words are pronounced, like Hi and Bye both sound like they should, not Ha, and ba...if you get my drift. As for the actors, I have not a clue, they are actors, if they can change their accents, then they are doing their job very well.

I have been to Louisiana many, many, many times and have found the people of LA to still be truly southern. Very refreshing! Found you via Blog Around The World - glad I did!

I'm just stopping by on my trip around this ole bloggin' world! I love your tour of LA (the good kind of LA that is!). I've been to your great state several times and will be cruising out of there in January. We're coming in a day early so I can show off Nawlin's to my boys. I think they'll love it -- I know I do!

I'll be back later to check out some of your other posts but right now the tour bus is a-leavin'!

Cute blog! I miss crawfish! Yummy! Also - thanks for your "household tips" (previous blog). Have you actually tried the Kool-Aid in the toilet thing??? Whoa!

LOL that is too cute!! Love the we don't talk different, you do! Ha! I'm going to pass on the cajun and slide that over to hubby. I may be from Texas but no hot stuff for me (I'm from Michigan originally! ha).

Thanks for the warm Louisiana welcome! They let kids hold baby gators? I don't think I could do that...

Ha! You are so right about so much :) You know, I think that I might be able to like crawfish if they weren't also called mudbugs. For some reason it just gets to me. AND, they're not exactly in my back yard, but I do live just down the road from an Aligator Farm :) No lie.

Thanks for the tour ;) Louisiana always looks beautiful when we drive through it. Congrats!

I love learning things about new places. Thanks for posting that.

I like my accent. It was first pointed out to me when I moved to the frozen country called Canada. Growing up in Az has given me a smooth voice. I love Louisana voices too! Crawfish is yummy!

I love that the kids can hold 'gators at the park --- even baby ones!

Hope school got easier after the first day! Good luck!

Aren't there just so many misconceptions about those of us in the south? Congrats on being a featured state.

(Oh, and I have two girls the same ages as yours...)

I keep thinking I might like crawfish.

I like lobster. I like crab legs.

But then someone made the mistake of telling me that crawfish are just one genetic kink away from being cockroaches.

That was the end for me.

Of course, they eat cockroaches in some countries, too.

Gag me with a spoon. ;)

Hi! I just found out the "secret" of the seafood boil from a friend. What do you use on your crawfish?

I Love Purple More Than You said...

Fun post! I married into Louisiana culture... or should I say Looziana (as my husband always corrects me). But I just can't watch people eat crawfish. Yuck. Though my s-i-l did teach me how to make a pretty mean etouffee. I'm originally from Florida, so I feel like Lousiana is our cousin as far as humidity/weather, bugs and gators.

And that's why I love living in CA now. :)

I love this:
"I don't have an accent. Nope, I don't. You all would probably say that I do, but you'd sadly be mistaken."
I couldn't agree more! I live in Florida so there are a lot of similarities. But I dream of visiting your state one day!

Forgot to say, I found you on SITS. =)

You have such a cute blog! My husband and I love to visit New Orleans. He spent a summer at Tulane when we were dating, and it is a special place for us to get away just the two of us. My favorite seafood dish ever is the hickory grilled redfish at Redfish Grille in NO! Thanks for all the info about life in LA!

That was great. Isn't it funny how people think there must be a sterotype to where you live. You have no idea how often I'm asked if we have koalas and kangaroos hopping around in our yard in Australia and then my aussie friends ask me how often I see celebrities living in California.

Leslie said...

Yeah, been there.....don't like the humidity. I'm a former Floridian. Great post!!
