You will know I am running from Gus. Yes, Gus. I hate the name Gustav, it sounds so Spanish. Hey good idea, Gustav, go meet your people over there. Kidding. I don't want to wish anyone else the harm of a freaking hurricane.
But please don't come here!!!
I hate my weatherman. He stands there looking so happy and smiling, while I sit here nervously waiting for a huge storm to come and blow me away.
I know why he's happy. Yep, he probably is going to get paid big time. It's called overtime. He will stay at the news studio for countless hours, tracking Gus and giving us the latest updates, while his bank account grows and mine goes down, down, down. All because I have to get prepared.
I have to get food. Not good food. Nasty, canned, ready to eat, quick food that nobody ever really wants. So there goes my grocery budget out the window. Not to mention all of the food I will lose that will go bad in my fridge when the electricity goes out.
While my weatherman sits in his nice safe studio eating something nice and gourmet that he bought from his big fat checking account. So fat because a storm is brewing. He loves it. I can see it all over his face. He's smiling. I am frowning.
I had to put a full tank of gas in my van. I had to get prepared before there is no gas left anywhere within 50 miles. Yep, it's happened before. Everyone within a 20 mile radius, lined up at every local gas pump, taking it all and draining them dry. I am ready this time. I have a full tank. My weatherman doesn't need a full tank. He can stay in one place. His beloved weather room. He will be saving even more money by not going anywhere.
Speaking of going somewhere....hmmm, I have nowhere to go! I mean, every hotel from here to the Arkansas border is booked. Booked people! If a mandatory evacuation is issued and we are told to head north, I am screwed! Not that I can really afford a hotel, but if there was one, I'd take it. Nothing. Zilch. Nada.
Seriously, if I can go east then I have a place to stay. For free! Right now that is my only option, so I am hoping for it. Like I said I don't want to send it to anyone else, I just don't want 'him' here!
Last time we had hurricane problems, her name was Rita. Yep, a woman. I dealt with her, but I am not so good with men. They don't listen to me. Not the hurricane, or my weatherman. I think it's a conspiracy.
Mr weatherman, can I come and stay with you??

Oh dear... stupid weatherman :( If it makes you feel any better, you're welcome to crash at my house. I have an extra room and a couch, and a futon. That is, so long as you don't mind puppies, and bugs... I'm not quite in Arkansas. I'm right on I-20. Seriously.
Do I sense a little bitterness toward your weatherman????? hehe
I truly hope you have a safe place to go; east would probably be a good way to go. All the hotel rooms were booked as of early yesterday. (except for Lafayette--but that is still to close to the gulf--probably why there were still rooms)
I'm afraid Louisiana is going to have to deal with Gustav, I just hope people learned from Katrina and things go a little different this time. There are people down in the NO area who are now refusing to leave if evacuation orders are given. The La SPCA is supposed to start evacuating the animals today to north La. I told my husband we need to offer to take in some large dogs if people need a place to leave their dogs. But we don't know where to post it. We have 3 boxers--so a few more wouldn't matter--LOL.
We are about 1/2 way between Alex and Laf--so more north than you. Please don't hesitate to call or email if you need something. Tonyababyrn@aol.com or 3187942020
This is awful but I'm so amazed that you already have people opening their homes to you. How sweet is that! I would throw in my offer but I don't think you want to drive to North Alabama! Ha! If you do, drive on up!! We have a couple of empty bedrooms and couches! :)
Oh - and we have weathermen exactly the same way! They cut into the closing ceremony of the Olympics because there was a flash flood warning and a tornado 'watch' in a county barely in their viewing area. I was none to pleased. (Although one of the weathermen is one of our friends so I can't be too harsh with them. He is a newbie though so no big fat bank accounts just yet - at least I don't think so - maybe I need to become better friends.) :)
If you head to Reno I will put you up! I am so glad I don't have to worry about these things, however sometimes in the winter, we can get a little snowed in, but as long as I have food and heat, I don't really mind!
You can head my way, I think we'll be safe this far up.
Fo Real. I have a guest room.
Best of luck. Thinking of all y'all in the path.
Come to utah
Well if you can get to "North of Siberia - but south of Wisconsin" you can stay in my basement.
Oh boy...good luck with Gus! My Step-father was named Gus...no need to say more.
Hey, I'm "Up north", you can head my way! LOL Seriously, take care and stay safe!
Heck, if you could make it to MA, I know a nice futon that is currently only housing a pile of mending waiting to be done...
I hate hurricanes, seriously.
Here's hoping it just fizzles and melts away like a movie special effect.
It's crazy what all we have to do to be prepared, but at least we will be. I think Gustav sounds German or something. The name irritates me and sounds ugly. Can you stay with your bf in BR?
Amy- I wish I was closer. You could stay with me! Take care and keep us posted.
Um ya, stupid weatherman! I never thought about all that would go into preparing for a storm like Gus. I feel for you and I hope that he goes away and fast!!
Hopefully your little trip to Colorado today (&my blog LOL) took your mind off the storm for just a minute or 2! Thanks for the comment!
You're welcome to come bunk with us in North Texas! Think we're only supposed to get a little rain.
Come on over...I'll leave the light on!!
Hi! I saw you at Kelly's Korner and just popped in because of your profile pic. Very similar to my current and almost exactly like my last. Was interested in finding another photographer.
Hope you fair well with the hurricane.
we're a littel facr to come and stay with us --but then you have to worry about tornados (farther east of me, thank goodness)
good luck and don't bite your nails tooo much in waiting for Gus to come at'cha!
thanks for stopping by my place yesterday, it was great to see you! (and tahnks for complimently my little guy...)
I got an idea. If it hits you, you can travel to Slidell, if it hits here, I'll travel to where you are. Mkay? Mkay. haha
Stay safe!! I'm in New Orleans so I can definitely relate!
Hope you have evacuation arrangements firmed up already! Stay safe on the road!
Be safe! I'm worried about ya'll down in Gustav's path!
Really thinking of you all and wish I could offer a room - but flights to New Zealand don't come cheap and who wants to fly in a hurricane?!
Love your humour in the bleakness of it all.
Best wishes and keep safe (and hope you don't have to eat too much of the tinned stuff!),
Sarah
